The Baldur Essentia is an accessory dropped by Granite Golems after Skeletron has been defeated. It grants the wearer 6 defense and creates a protective barrier that further increases defense by 30% while charging.
When increasing the player's defense, this accessory takes into account every source of defense that is affecting the player, including, but not limited to: armor, transformations and buffs.
Because of this, this accessory, along with its upgrade, increases in value once the player unlocks their later forms and gains access to better armor, allowing for exceptional defense values.
The new defense value is rounded down. For example, when a player only has a Baldur Essentia equipped, their defense while charging will be 6 * 1.3 = 7.8, which is rounded down to 7.

This accessory is a reference to the Baldur Shell Charm in Hollow Knight and function in almost the same manner.
